Actually the best source for data on oil production, consumption, and prices are the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) annual reports entitled the Annual Energy Review (AER) and the International Energy Annual. The AER data are available in time series format. The extensive historical data makes it possible to study trends in oil consumption over time. There is further information on the
petroleum site, as well as a petroleum
chronology of events dating from 1970 to 2000.
The Statistical Abstract of the United States has many of the EIA statistics. To find these data select the edition (year) of interest, go to the "Energy and Natural Resources" section, and then browse the tables on "Petroleum".
