The address search functionality on data.census.gov allows you to type in an address and get a clickable list of geography filters the address falls within.

To search by address:

  • Click the geography pin icon in the single search bar on the landing page of data.census.gov
  • Enter the street address in the pop-up window, as well as the city/state or ZIP code (example: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC, 20500)
  • Click the “Search” button

  • View the address card, which contains a list of geographies the address falls within. Click a geography to add it as a selected filter (example: Census Tract 9800).

  • You will see the geography as a filter, allowing you to view results for that geography or apply other search criteria to narrow your search.

  • Address search functionality on data.census.gov is exclusively available through the geography pin icon on the landing page.
  • The address search is powered by and limited to addresses recognized by the Census Geocoder.
  • Supported geographic areas for the address card on data.census.gov include:
    • State
    • Combined Statistical Area
    • County Subdivision
    • Urban Area
    • Place
    • County
    • State Legislative Districts (Upper and Lower Chambers)
    • Block
    • Block Group
    • Census Tract
    • Congressional District
    • ZIP Code Tabulation Area
    • School District (Elementary, Secondary, Unified)
